First Post

I mainly started this blog to help me record new things I've learnt or come across that are pretty cool, or will save me some time trying to work it out again next time.

Sure I had a wiki for this stuff, but it just doesn't really cut it so i need to have a bit of a mixture of the two. Martin Fowler has coined part of his site a "bliki". I guess that's sort of what i'm after, something that I can use in my day to day activities, for problem solving, finding references to stuff i've already used etc.

When choosing wiki's or blogs, in the past I was always interested in what separation they had between content and presentation and what methods were available for me to export content out of such systems into the future apps.

I never found anything great, so I find myself starting from scratch with a new blog. The data is way more important than the current client of the moment, as long as it can be preserved.

Applications are constantly changing but the data and data structure are slower to evolve.Middle and presentation tiers evolve, many apps are rewritten to take advantage of the new technologies, but most of the time the same databases are used.

Looking at wiki's like TWiki which i still use, about the only thing you could do was fully export in .html the whole site, ok there is some structure, but it is still based around presentation markup.

Anyway, I picked mt based on recommendations, it looks features look pretty good, guess I'll find out more about them shortly.
